Arthur Irwin Warland of Earlwood

On 18 December 1937, Irwin Warland, storeman of Homer Street, Earlwood, was noted in the Sydney Morning Herald as having had a nervous breakdown and gaining compensation for this. 

John Durban Warland, born 2 May 1901, was recorded as a student the University of Sydney in 1919. 

John was recorded as 'J D Warland' at 120 Curlewis Street, North Bondi, in 1930 and 1931. In 1933 and 1936 he was recorded in the North Sydney electorate. In 1937, and then again in 1943, 1949 and 1954 he was recorded in the Lang electorate (where Earlwood is located). 

It appears likely that John married Rita Miriam in the mid 1920s, they lived at 547 Homer Street, Earlwood from 1943 to 1954 and possibly had three children: Lorna, Cath (Kathleen), and possibly John Michael Warland. 

John enlisted for World War 2 at Paddington NSW on 13 June 1940. His Next of Kin was given as Rita Warland. Gunner John D Warland, Artillery, (NX29707, 2/15 Field Regiment) of Earlwood, was recorded as 'Missing' in the Sydney Morning Herald of 8 August 1942. He was recorded as being located as a Prisoner of War in the Army News (Darwin, NT) of 22 September 1945 and again on 5 October 1945. He was discharged on 4 April 1946. 

On 31 May 1952, the Sydney Morning Herald included an announcement of the engagement of Lorna Warland, 'elder daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Warland of Earlwood', to Earnest John Miller, elder son of Mr and Mrs E F Miller of Burrawang West. 

A Cath Warland of Earlwood was recorded (with a photograph) in the Sydney Morning Herald of 9 November 1952, as having recently graduated from the Royal Prince Alfred as a nurse. 

On 6 March 1954, the Sydney Morning Herald included an announcement of the engagement of Kathleen Warland, 'younger daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Warland of Earlwood' to Allan Leslie Wright, second son of Mrs I J Wright and the late Mr D Wright of Earlwood. 

John Durban and Rita Warland may also have had a son, John Richard Warland, born around 1929. (Theory)

John Durban Warland, 56 'late of Earlwood', died on 3 February 1956. 

John Richard Warland had the following marriages:

- Peggy. They had a son, Michael Warland. Peggy may have been the daughter of Charles John Boyd and Peggy Minnie  Boyd, who married in 1953. 
- Deanne Gallagher, from 1970 to 1980. They had a daughter, Danielle Warland. Daniel in turn had a son Michael John Warland. 
- While married to Deanne Gallagher, John Richard had an affair with Helen Margaret Reece, from 1972 to 1980.
- Sharon Prager, from 1980 to 1982. Sharon was an American.
- Carmel Herber. No further information.
- Patricia Virola (surname?). Originally from The Philippines. They were married in 1992 and had a daughter Katherine Warland. 

John Richard Warland, late of Caves Beach, Newcastle, died on 30 May 1997 aged 58.
