About 1787 - Arthur Croll
Arthur Croll was born around 1787 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He married Elizabeth Davy on 10 June 1815 in Fordoun, Kincardineshire, Scotland. They had several children (Source: this Wikitree page and other references as shown):
- Margaret Croll (1815 - 1815)
- William Croll (17 July 1819, Aberdeen (Ref TBA) - ?). Should not be confused with William Croll (1811 - 1861), the son of Andrew Croll and Isabella Burns.
- James Fullarton Croll (22 July 1821, Aberdeen (Ref TBA) - ?). Married Cecilia Davie, surname shown as Croall.
- Charles Croll (4 March 1823, Aberdeen (Ref TBA) - 6 October 1891, Gleferrie (Vic BDM Ref 15608, parents' names not shown). Married Janet Henderson and had children.
- David Croll (20 May 1827, Balmakelly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland (Ref 265/30/33)) - 1909, 'at residence of his daughter, Mrs R Worland, 2 Edward Street, Glenferrie (Vic BDM Ref 8856, mother 'Isabella Davey', The Age 11 August 1909))

1854 - Arrival of David Croll and family
David Croll (1827 - 1909) married Isabella Wood on 10 July 1850 at Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh. David and his wife Isabella and their daughters Christina (born 1851) and Ann (born 1853) left Scotland as assisted passengers on the ship the Indian Ocean. Their infant daughter Ann died on the journey but is recorded in the Victorian BDM records (as Ann Croal). They arrived in 1854 in Warrnambool, Victoria Australia; the passenger listings recorded the surname as Croal.
According to the Worland family history, David and Isabella Croll were on the same ship coming to Australia as Joseph and Mary Worland and three children Sarah, Joseph and Richard. However, the Worlands arrived at Belfast/Port Fairy on 2 October 1853 on the Oitonia/Orthonia, so perhaps they met after arrival.
David and Isabella Croll had the following children:
- Christina Croll (6 July 1851, Edinburgh - 1942 (Vic BDM 7745)) married Richard Worland(1849 - 1939) 'second son of the late Mr and Mrs Joseph Worland of Russell's Creek' on 24 October 1873 (The Argus, 24 October 1923, reporting their Golden Wedding anniversary).
- Ann Croll (1853 - 1854, 'at sea on board Indian Ocean' (Vic BDM Ref 255, surname 'Croal'). Recorded in the Indian Ocean passenger lists as Ann Croal, aged 1
- Arthur Croll (1855, Belfast/Port Fairy (Vic BDM Ref 2050) - 1921, Melbourne East (Vic BDM Ref 10837))
- David Croll (1857 - 1860 (Vic BDM Ref 2429))
- Robert Winton Croll (1861, Warrnambool (Vic BDM Ref 8661) - 30 May 1948, Northcote (Vic BDM Ref 6192, The Argus 5 June 1948)). No obvious record of marriage in Victoria. Death notice states 'loved brother of W P Croll'
- William Washington Portland/Portland Croll (1864, Warrnambool (Vic BDM Ref 18805, 'Portland') - ). Married Mary Lamb Campbell in 1891 (Vic BDM Ref 3406).
- David Croll (1866, Warrnambool (Vic BDM Ref 11846) - 1921, Melbourne East (Vic BDM Ref 10770)
- Albert Edward Croll (1870, Warrnambool (Vic BDM Ref 20068) - ). Married Florence Mabel (surname) and lived in Adelaide. Florence died on 25 October 1943 in Adelaide. They had two children, as recorded in Florence's death notice:

- Jean Croll. Married D Swincer.
- Henry Wood Croll (1860 - 1860 (Vic BDM Ref 2427, 10 months))
David worked as a carpenter at Warrnambool.
From 1855 - Charles Croll
Charles Croll (1823 - 6 October 1891 (The Age 7 October 1891)) married Janet Henderson ( - 14 June 1904, Hawthorn (Vic BDM Ref 5123, The Argus 15 June 1904)) on 26 May 1854 in Edinburgh. Janet was the daughter of Robert Henderson and Mary Sanderson. Charles and Janet Croll travelled to Queensland first, arriving at Moreton Bay on the William Miles in 1855 (NSW Assisted Immigrants Index 1839 - 1896, Reels 2137, 2472). By 1857 they had made their way to Warrnambool where his brother David Croll lived.
Charles and Janet Croll lived in Stawell where Charles worked as a tailor and gold miner. They had the following children.

- Elizabeth Ann/Annie Croll (1861, 'W'Ford' (Vic BDM Ref 5279) - 1942 (Vic BDM Ref 3337, shows birth place as Kilmany)). Married Albert James Watts of Quorn, South Australia, on 1 January 1895 (The Age 31 January 1895).
- Charles Croll (1864, Pleasant Creek/Stawell (Vic BDM Ref 17357) - ). Married Maria Ashton (died 1951, Hawthorn (Vic BDM Ref 8477) in 1896 (Vic BDM Ref 3158). (Note, another Charles Croll married Marion Elsie Evans and had children in Mildura from 1909 to 1915)
- Eric Ashton Croll (5 July 1897, Hawthorn (Vic BDM Ref 19796) - ). Married Marcelle Jean Pettit in 1933 (Vic BDM 5277)
- Doris Eleanor Ashton Croll (1901, Hawthorn (Vic BDM Ref 11656) - ). Married Thomas Gordon Scott Grieve (died 1960, Mont Albert (Vic BDM Ref 12811) in 1942 (Vic BDM Ref 6500).
- Ian Charles Henderson Croll (1908, Hawthorn (Vic BDM Ref 19848)). Ian joined the RAAF. He married Mollie Beale of Kew on 7 March 1942 (The Argus 7 March 1942).
- Robert Henderson Croll (4 January 1869, Pleasant Creek/Stawell (Vic BDM Ref 4338, excludes the second name Henderson)) - 18 October 1947, Camberwell (Vic BDM Ref 11532)). The Courier-Mail of 20 October 1947 noted the following about 'Bob' Croll: 'Bob Croll, as he was familiarly called, was one of the best known personalities in Melbourne. An authority on aborigine art, he helped many aboriginal artists to gain recognition. During the war Croll was deputy chief publicity censor for Australia'. The Age of 9 April 1949 noted that 'his interests included literature, art, botany, ornithology, anthropolicy, geology and athletics'. He was the author of many books.
