The Warlands of Cowgrove

Cowgrove is an area of land just south of Kingston Lacy Manor House, to the west of Corfe Mullen.

1655 - Richard Warland marries Mary Sebury in Almer

As noted on the Almer page, Richard Warland, probably born around 1630 - 1635 to unknown parents, married Mary Sebury in 1655 in Almer. They had the following children, at least one of whom appears to have been baptised in Wimborne, suggesting a connection of some sort to that location:

The name Richard is not common so it is not known if there is a connection with Cowgrove - unless the Mary Warland noted below in a 1688 lease (below) moved to or had returned there after her husband Richard Warland died in or near Almer. As also noted in the Almer page, the family of Richard and Mary Warland (nee Sebury) could have been the 'Cowgrove group' shown in the Hearth Tax of 1662.

August 1688 - Mary Warland leases land from Elizabth Filliter

On 1 August 1688, Mary Warland of Cowgrove, the widow of Richard Warland, yeoman, deceased, and Richard's brother John Warland, entered into a lease of capital messuage of Beere, Cowgrove, with (a) Elizabeth Filliter of Modern, a spinster, and (b) Johnadab [sic] Savage of Bloxworth, gent, and William Holway of Corfe Mullen, gent.
