I offer a series of workshops to help organisations understand how to manage records in Microsoft 365. These workshops usually delivered via Microsoft Teams, run for up to two hours each, but may be customised as necessary.

Workshop 1 - Overview: Introduction to managing records in Microsoft 365
This two-hour workshop covers the following points:
- Overview of licence options and differences (e.g., E3/E5)
- Review and walkthrough of where records are created, captured and managed in Microsoft 365
- Understanding Microsoft 365 Groups and their relationship with SharePoint, Exchange/Outlook, Planner and Teams
- Introduction to SharePoint architecture
- Introduction to governance
- 'Live' walk-through of Microsoft 365 admin centres: Entra, Microsoft 365 admin, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, Purview

Workshop 2 - Compliance: Microsoft Purview
This two-hour workshop covers the following points:
- Review of where records are created, captured and managed in Microsoft 365
- What is Purview and Defender?
- How to access Purview - roles
- Accessing and using audit logs
- eDiscovery (standard and premium) and content searches
- Creating and implementing retention labels and retention policies (E3 and E5), options for managing disposal (this section often takes up the most time)
- Creating and implementing information sensitivity labels (MSIP)
- Implementing Data Loss Prevention policies
- Using Insider Risk Management
- Communication compliance
- Making the most of AI and Machine Learning - Data Classification
- Implementing policies to monitor events, relationship with Defender
- Using compliance manager to assess your tenant

Workshop 3 - Design: SharePoint Online (and Teams) architecture design and provisioning
This two-hour workshop covers the following points:
- Review of where records are created, captured and managed in Microsoft 365
- The relationship between Microsoft 365 Groups, SharePoint, Outlook and Teams
- Architecture design and conceptual overview and approach
- Walk through of the SharePoint Online admin portal options and settings
- Decision making for managing records: Purpose, access, features, security and retention
- Creating new sites/Teams: SharePoint Online site types, naming conventions
- New site provisioning: Core features for records management and access controls
- Navigation options, including the use of hub sites
- Managing inactive and legacy sites

Workshop 4 - SharePoint Site Configuration: Configuring SharePoint Online sites to manage records
This two-hour workshop covers the following points:
- Information architecture and mapping SharePoint sites/Teams to business functions
- Walk through of a typical SharePoint Online site: pages, libraries, lists (including calendars)
- Review of options and features in Site Settings that are used to support records management
- Permissions and access controls including for Microsoft 365 Group-based sites
- Creating and using site pages
- Creating and configuring libraries and lists and other options
- Using lists to manage physical records
- Metadata options: Managed Metadata (Term Store), Site column and Library columns
- Using Content Types: what are they and when would you use them?
- When and how retention policies should be applied to SharePoint sites
- Versioning and auditing (and the relationship with Purview audit logs)
- Search options including Search PNP (see also the separate workshop on metadata and search for more detail)
- Configuring and working with document libraries to manage records
- Creating and managing views
- Exporting metadata

Workshop 5 - Metadata and search
This two-hour workshop covers the following points:
- Introduction to the Microsoft 365 substrate and Microsoft Graph
- Overview of minimum and extended metadata requirements
- Managed metadata (Term Store)
- Creating global content types and metadata (including types)
- Creating site columns and content types
- Creating library columns (existing and new)
- Using lookup lists
- Exporting metadata including for disposition
- Introduction to out of the box search
- Understanding the link between crawled and managed properties
- Creating and modifying global and local search verticals
- Deploying Search PNP
- Creating and modifying custom search result pages

Workshop 6 - Governance: Developing a governance plan
This two-hour workshop covers the following points:
- Why governance is essential
- Governance challenges for IT and records and information managers
- Governance operating models
- What governance isn't
- Example terms of reference
- Detailed walkthrough via live demo of key settings in all Microsoft 365 admin portals
